Research Service

1.FRAMEWORK

B-on’s search engine , based on a federated search technology (real-time simultaneous search in several publisher’s databases), is in production since its creation in 2004. Despite the good usage indicators this tool has had problems, particularly in the following areas:

• Navigation
• Usability
• Presentation of results

The emergence of new solutions – based on technologies that pre index metadata in a single central index, allows a closer connection to the end user, solves, the problems of delay in the delivery of search results and enhance the usage of features related to data and interface quality.

1.1.GOALS
The new b-on’s search service is based on the new technology referred above. Its main goal is to provide the end user with a better experience in their interaction with the digital library (search interface, discovery and delivery of electronic resources).

2. SERVICE PROVIDED TO ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS AND HOSPITALS
The new search service has two interfaces: one for the academic and R&D institutions and another one for hospitals.
